HO CHI MINH, May 24, 2023, Pfizer (Vietnam) Limited Company and Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU)

Pfizer Vietnam and Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company (VNVC) gathered for the signing ceremony.

The project marks an important milestone for the long-term companionship between Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company and Pfizer Company to achieve the goal of comprehensive cooperation to protect public health, proactively prevent disease and keep up with advances in the world, contribute positively to Vietnamese people’s health care.

The main purpose of this project is:

  • To improve the capacity of health care professionals in proactively consulting and preventing diseases of all ages, especially those at high risk for vaccine-preventable diseases through scientific conferences to update knowledge.
  • To collaborate in upgrading capability for staff in development, implementation and management of real-world data on vaccination (“Real-World Evidence”) in Vietnam thus providing a big picture on the vaccination patterns in Vietnamese people for safety vaccination.
  • To raise public awareness of disease and healthcare prevention through education, communication..., reduce disease burden, protect public health by increasing the rate of proactive prevention of dangerous infections through many measures, including vaccines.

The global Covid-19 pandemic was considered an alarm bell for the outbreak of dangerous diseases, possibly emerging diseases or seasonal epidemics, or dangerous infectious diseases. In addition to preventive measures, the role of vaccines is extremely important to limit the spread, reduce morbidity and mortality rates. "World Immunization Week 2023” with the theme "The big catch-up" was to remind us to get vaccinated if we haven't, to vaccinate the millions of children who missed the necessary shot and remind that immunization is not only for children but also for adults.

With the efforts of the “Expanded Program on Immunization” for children under one year old in Vietnam, we have now protected children from 10 current dangerous diseases such as Tuberculosis, HBV, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Polio, Meningitis due to HIB, Measles, Rubella. However, there are still many dangerous diseases that can be actively prevented such as Pneumococcal disease, seasonal flu, respiratory syncytial virus disease, meningococcal meningitis... According to World Health Organization (WHO), Pneumonia is the main cause of death in children under 5 years old [1], 15% of all child deaths in 2017 were due to pneumonia [2]. Every 39 seconds, a child dies from pneumonia worldwide [5]. In pneumonia cases, 7 to 13% of children have severe, life-threatening symptoms that require hospitalization. In Vietnam, every year, about 4000 children under 5 years old die from pneumonia [4]. S. pneumoniae is the leading bacterial cause of community-acquired pneumonia in children under 5 years old.

Vaccines are considered a great scientific and medical achievement of mankind. Proactively preventing dangerous diseases with vaccines for people from all ages including service vaccines will help create opportunities for people, helping them quickly have access to global scientific achievements. Let's join hands, through the opportunity to vaccinate everyone at all ages to protect public health, serve healthier life for Vietnamese people.

According to Ms. Vu Thi Thu Ha, Supply Chain Director of VNVC, “The Covid-19 pandemic has changed people's perception of the prevention role of vaccines. The MOU marks a critical milestone for a long-term cooperation between VNVC and Pfizer Vietnam jointly aim to raise awareness, protect public health from vaccine-preventable diseases, keep up with advances in real-world data on vaccination in Vietnam, contribute positively to Vietnamese people’s health care."
